Ginny Barrett-Leach

Biography

Ginny spent much of her childhood drawing and painting on anything she could find. Her talent developed over the years with the interruption of raising her son and shaping a career. Although Ginny's work was successfully received, it did not satisfy her vision.
In 1994 she attended a workshop with watercolor artist, Karla Demers. It was here that Ginny discovered the "controlled chaos" that is watercolor glazing. She gained an appreciation of the spontaneous nature of the medium and found the key to unlocking a world of color. Ginny chooses the delicate world of flowers to translate the bold and subtle use of color and light.
When her young niece passed away in 2003, Ginny introduced a new element in her floral paintings. She includes a small heart with a hole in it, somewhere in each painting. The "Remembrance Floral" series celebrates loved ones who are no longer with us. It is this series of paintings that Ginny is sharing with the public.

Artist's Statement
I try to involve the viewer in the creative process. By creating subtle shapes and textures behind the focal point, each painting is interactive. This is especially true in "Twin Orchards" where different leaf patterns are suggested. My paintings are an interpretation of light. Layers of paint are washed across the paper as waves of light wash over the subject. As the artist and the viewer bring the subject into focus, each person will translate their own interpretation of the peripheral region. Art is poetry for the eyes; it excites a level of curiosity and stimulates ideas.
